The cove is just a two-kilometre downhill stroll past the goats and the sheep that mill around this conservation area which stretches across the entirety of this section of Crete's coastline.
Even before you arrive at the cove, you'll notice crystal clear turquoise blue waters of Octopus Bay which has recently been designated a marine conservation area. Four bobbing yellow buoys in the bay mark out the area where a new reef has been placed to reinvigorate the marine life. Already the effects are being seen and divers now come to experience it.
The cove has no sandy beach area but there are plenty of places to jump in and swim, snorkel or just fool about in the waves.
Further round the bay is a cave that was home for five years for a local stone artist called Vangelis. Over his time in the cave, he created many of the stone sculptures, patterns and seating areas that mark this cove out as an exceptional little spot for a swim.

Being based on the Apokoronas peninsula, there is so much on offer near by it would be foolish to even try and cover it. Suffice to say here are just a few of our places that might be worth checking out.
Locally to eat, is Monica's or Arismari in Gavalohori. Almyrida, has a host of restaurants but our absolute favourite is Psaros on the front. Arkadi out on the coast in Georgioupoli is worth a visit, but it is a little more expensive.
For big nights out then Rethimno (also spelt Rethymno) and Chania are the natural draws. With their Venetian harbours and seemingly endless old town shopping streets, alleys to explore, with an amazing array of shops, stalls, and restaurants.

For a true adventure head an hour to the south side of the island. Once over a high mountain pass you’ll drop down hair pin bends to Hora Sfakion, where you can pick up a sea taxi (no roads west from here). Ask the taxi to take you to Marmara for a brilliant rustic cafe lunch (A previous winner of Conde Nast's ‘Best off the beaten track cafe' in the world). On way back, you should stop at Loutro for cocktails and sundowners.
If you're in the mood for more of an Ibiza vibe then head to Falasarna on the west coast for a great beach, wonderful food, and DJs (on Saturday nights) as the sun sinks into the Mediterranean.
A little closer and much more laid back is Salty Goat on the mile long Episkopi beach, in Georgioupoli Bay.
There is so some much… vineyards, hiking, water parks, jeep safaris, horse riding, museums, beaches galore and a whole lot more – Pick your thing and have fun!
